Professor Boaz Golany is an engaging speaker who brings to life the research undertaken at the Technion. He is uniquely placed to explain the Technion's critical importance to Israel's economic, high-tech and defence futures.
An acknowledged expert and world leader in industrial engineering, operations research, management sciences and counter terrorism he has, for 25 years, been a leader in applying industrial engineering solutions to complex military and defence issues.
He currently co-heads a joint Technion – Yale University three year study into counter-terrorism and homeland security. This study is using operational methodology usually applied to complex, multi-level industrial problems to determine the best way to detect terrorist activity, intercept it and protect communities. The study is addressing the issue of how to collect, analyse and assess intelligence coming from multiple sources.
His research and its practical applications has ranged across areas as varied as production, retail distribution networks, multi-project management, banking call centres, health care and military command and control systems. His ground breaking work in the field of Data Envelopment Analysis has been applied in areas as varied the US Tactical Air Command, Israeli Air Force, power plants, soft drinks manufacture and hospitals.
